Aluzinc is a 55% aluminium, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon double sided coating applied to a steel substrate in a continuous hot dip process, creating an attractive, corrosion resistant ‘spangled silver’ finish, the appearance of which is preserved by a thin layer of aluminium oxide which forms on the top surface.

If the coating is damaged, scratched or cut, the zinc (via cathodic protection) prevents oxygen and moisture coming into contact with the surface of the steel offering 2 to 4 times more corrosion resistance than conventional galvanised coating. SSAB/Aluzinc clad insulated pipes have been independently Fire Tested alongside Stucco Aluminium sheet, aluminium foil, PVC and Butyl rubber cladding - a typical hydrocarbon fire does not reach the melting point of steel, aluminium melts at 660°C...during the 30 minute test Petrochem Dobelshield® cladding remained intact, protecting the insulation and pipework.

Test Results...during the 30 minute test it was found that aluminium cladding, foil cladding and PIB all melted within three minutes, PVC ignited within 30 seconds!
